Dr. Wali begins by saturating the donor area with a sterile saline solution which breaks apart the fatty deposits and makes it easier for removal. Dr. Wali is careful to gently suction the fat removed in order to minimize potential damage of cells and ensure that impurities are removed before transfer to the new location.
The process of removal and transfer can be performed simultaneously or at different times. Patients often choose to schedule the transfer at the same time as removal but banking of viable cells for later transfer is an option that can be discussed during consultation with Dr. Wali.
Most patients report little discomfort following fat transfer. The location of removal will be a little sore and the recipient site may be swollen or tight as your skin and muscles adapt to the new tissue, but patients generally return to normal activity within weeks.
