How To Care for Yourself After a Tummy Tuck in Rancho Cucamonga

Tummy Tucks are one of the most popular types of plastic surgery here in Rancho Cucamonga, and for good reason. They’re one of the fastest ways you can achieve a new figure, by removing fat around a patient’s midsection.

However, there is some recovery time after a tummy tuck, and we want to help you recover as quickly as possible with minimal discomfort. So, let’s talk about some of Dr. Dev Wali’s most important tips for recovering after having a tummy tuck in Rancho Cucamonga.

Take Good Care of Yourself After a Tummy Tuck!

1 – Consider using a walker or cane

While not 100% necessary, most of our patients report less discomfort if they use a walker or cane for a few days after the surgery. Standing upright puts a lot of pressure on the incision, and the slightly ‘hunched over’ stance while using a walker/cane avoids this. You’ll have less pain, and the incision will likely heal more quickly too.

2 – Pads, gauze, and supplies

We endeavor to make our incisions and dressing as low-maintenance as possible, but there still may be some leaking from the incision early on. A stock of maxi pads and gauze to hold them in place is a cheap and easy way to prevent any staining on your clothes.

3 – Reducing nausea

Everyone reacts to anesthetics a little differently, but post-operation nausea is quite common. We prescribe anti-nausea meds after each tummy tuck, and we recommend taking them even if you don’t feel sick. Also, if the nausea is bad, you may want to stick to bland basic foods – like crackers and water – for the first day or so. Don’t worry, it’ll go away once the anesthetics are totally out of your system.

4 – Avoid showers for awhile

After a surgical operation, you’ll want to avoid taking showers or baths for a few days, because it’s difficult to do without causing problems with the dressing, bindings, or drain tube.  While it can be done with some creativity – like pinning the drain tube out of the way – it’s usually better to just stick to sponge baths.
